“I tought I taw a purty car! I did! I did see a purty car!” Ford has raised the bar again in style, technology, and class exclusive value. What is the next vehicle that Ford is bringing to market? The fresh new design of the 2011 Ford Edge with an industry first, MyFord Touch. Design and Styling On the outside Ford has updated the wheels and even brought back the 22″ wheels for the Sport model. A good look for the Sporty Edge. As far as colors the Edge will have four new colors they are Bordeaux Reserve Red (a wine color), Mediterranean Blue (almost turquoise), Earth (a brown with a greenish tone), and Kona Blue (a medium warm blue). The lines of the Edge are more noticeable giving the Edge a more expressive look. With a few refreshers the Edge is sure to turn heads and that’s before customers even take a glance in the inside. Once in the cockpit of the Ford Edge, people will notice an immediate change in the center stack and all the buttons on the steering wheel. The center stack houses Ford’s newest technology, an industry first, MyFord Touch and flows from the instrument panel to the center console. The interior design was made with the customer in mind, no after thoughts. Revolutionary Technology When speaking about what Ford has done in recent years with Sync, they have opened the market again, with MyFord Touch. This is a driver-connect technology that has built in HD radio with iTunes tagging capability. What that means is you can slide your finger across the screen to turn the volume up, the temperature up, or go to the different menus that are displayed in different colors. The yellow corner is to allow access to your mobile phone, the green corner is to access the Navigation System, the red corner is for audio & media functions, and the blue corner is for the climate control functions. This allows you to access more than just your bluetoothed phone or navigation. It also has controls on the steering wheel giving you the feel of being in a real “cockpit”. Ford Motor Company hit a grand slam with this technology which is also featured in the new Lincoln MKX. Performance and Handling To put the total package together the 2011 Ford Edge an award winning powertrain. The standard engine is 3.5L V6 that produces 285 horsepower which is 20 more horses than last year’s model and 235 lb-ft of torque which is sure to please even the heavy footed. When you move up to the SEL and Limited models the engine is paired with the new SelectShift Automatic 6 speed transmission that delivers increased driver control and performance. But wait there’s more! The Edge SPORT model has an upgraded engine, it is the 3.7L. The 3.7L pushes 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Maybe that’s why it’s name the SPORT model? With all the changes to the new 2011 Ford Edge, Ford has produced another game changer. Jason Mase, Crossover Marketing Manager said, “Edge has stood out from the competition from the very beginning, and the 2011 model will be a standout again in the way it merges style our customers want with technology our competitors can’t match.” How true that is.
